Biography

Vice Mayor Bret Daniels was elected to the City Council in 2016.  He was previously elected in 1999, 2002 and 2020, served as Vice Mayor in 2004, and as Mayor in 2005.  During his previous term, he was a strong advocate for developing the first Citrus Heights Police Department and served on the Solid Waste Authority, including a year as the Chairman.


From 1980 to 2000, Bret enjoyed a law enforcement career including stints in the United States Air Force, the Laramie County Sheriff's Office in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and in the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.


Bret is a Founding Member and the President of Toys for the Troops' Kids, a non-profit charitable organization that provides toys to the kids of our military service members during Christmas.


Bret first moved to Citrus Heights in 1973 when his father took a job at the then recently opened Sunrise Mall.  He is a member of Heights Church in Citrus Heights where he serves on the Safety Team.  He is married with four children and four granddaughters.
