Bite Reports are Mandatory, It's the Law!
Citrus Heights Municipal Code §8-50 - Duty to Report Bite.
"It is the duty of any person having knowledge that any animal capable of transmitting rabies has bitten or otherwise exposed to rabies a human being within the City of Citrus Heights to immediately report that fact to the Health Officer or the Chief of Animal Services and to furnish complete information thereof, including, but not limited to, any knowledge of the whereabouts of said animal."

What to DO if your bitten
Animal Services Officers are required by the CDC to respond to animal bites by verifying the current health of the biting animal, the animal's rabies vaccination status, and to establish a quarantine to monitor the animal for a minimum of 10 days.
An Unknown Animal
First and foremost, get to safety. If necessary, call 911. Second, contact your medical provider and seek medical attention or advice. Third, contact your local Animal Services office with as much detail as you can provide so they can investigate the incident.
Your Own Animal
First, contact your medical provider and seek medical attention or advice. Second, locate veterinary records for your animal's most recent vaccination. Third, contact your local Animal Services office to make a report. The Animal Services Officer will determine the most appropriate way to quarantine the animal. If bitten by your own animal, you may qualify for home quarantine.
