[ARCHIVED] Officer Involved Shooting

Citrus Heights, CA – At Approximately 3:54pm, Citrus Heights Police Officers responded to the 6000 block of Birdcage Street for a reported domestic disturbance. Upon arrival officers located a bloodied and injured female. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
When officers attempted to contact the suspect, he retreated and barricaded himself inside his residence. There was no one else in the apartment with him at the time. For over four hours CHPD Crisis Negotiators attempted to resolve the matter peacefully. A warrant was obtained by CHPD Detectives. At approximately 8:22pm Officers approached the doorway in order to contact the suspect; officers heard what they believed to be gunshots from inside the apartment.
Residents in the adjoining apartments were evacuated and several businesses were evacuated for public safety. Additional resources were requested including the Citrus Heights SWAT team.
At approximately 2210 the suspect exited his apartment without warning, threatening an officer with a knife while in a narrow corridor area within close distance to the officers. A CHPD Officer shot the suspect. Medical personnel, who were staged, responded and provided medical aid to the suspect; however, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Currently, CHPD is in the beginning stages of an Officer Involved Shooting Investigation. The areas around the location will remain closed during the initial investigation.
