The City of Citrus Heights and the Citrus Heights Police Department would like to remind everyone to take preventative action over the next several days while dealing with the expected cold weather and rain. Below are tips to keep you safe and warm during the upcoming cold and rainy days:

Personal cold weather tips:

-Dress in layered clothing and wear some sort of head gear/covering
-Have a week’s worth of food and safety supplies
-Keep an adequate supply of fresh water on hand
-Have a battery powered radio in the case of power failure for weather updates
-Discuss emergency plans with family members in advance
-Ensure that pets are secure and out of the elements
-Check on your neighbors-especially the elderly and those that live alone

Housing cold weather tips:

-Make sure fireplace flues are working properly
-Learn where your water shutoff valves are in case a pipe bursts
-Never place space heaters close to flammable objects, such as drapes or bedding
-Do not use charcoal or gas grills indoors
-Insulate exterior pipes and water lines

Due to the large amount of expected rain, flooding could occur due to creeks overflowing or the amount of rainfall exceeding the capacity of underground pipes and drains. In the event of excessive rainfall, the following roadways have been identified as potential locations for flooding:

-Sunrise Blvd between Twin Oaks and Woodmore Oaks
-Greenback Lane between Fair Oaks and Sunrise
-Van Maren between Greenback Lane and Calvin
-Antelope Road and Auburn Blvd (Rusch Park)
-Mariposa and Highland

The City of Citrus Heights will have sandbags available to residents. Residents will be required to show identification and be provided up to ten bags. The following two locations are sites for sandbags:

-McDonald Park 8001 Old Auburn (Available 24 hours)
-C-Bar-C Park 8275 Oak Ave (8am-5pm)
